Troy Stovall has been teaching in Muhlenberg County since 1995.  He was appointed Director of Bands for Muhlenberg County High School in 2009. His primary responsibilities include directing the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, Pep Bands, Jazz Band, assisting at the middle schools, and teaching Music Theory. Prior to his appointment at Muhlenberg County High School, he taught in the Muhlenberg County School System at Muhlenberg North Middle School for twelve years and Muhlenberg North High School for two. In addition to his many teaching responsibilities, he periodically performs with the Western Kentucky University Faculty Brass Quintet, the Southern Kentucky Concert Band, and also serves as a staff member for the Kentucky Ambassadors of Music. He is an active clinician and adjudicator throughout the state of Kentucky.

During his tenure, three bands have been invited to perform at the KMEA Conference. The Muhlenberg North Middle School Band was invited twice to perform, first in 2001 and again in 2005, and most recently the Muhlenberg County High School Symphonic Band performed in 2012. The MNMS Band also performed at the University of Kentucky Middle School Invitational Concert Band Festival in October of 2005. The bands and students under his direction have consistently received distinguished ratings at all KMEA festivals.

Stovall earned a Bachelor’s of Music Education degree in 1995 from Western Kentucky University, and in 2004 a Master’s of Arts in Music Education from the same institution. While at Western, he participated in numerous ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra. Stovall was named Kentucky’s Outstanding Young Band Director of the Year by Phi Beta Mu in 2001, Third District Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2004-05, and KMEA Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2004-05.

Stovall’s professional affiliations include the Kentucky Music Educators’ Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the National Band Association, Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters’ Fraternity, the American School Band Directors’ Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He has served as the State Band Chair for KMEA, and has twice been the Chairman of the Third District Band Directors’ Association. He is currently the President of the Psi Chapter of Phi Beta Mu, and has also served as Secretary/Treasurer for the same organization.
